Sanitation is also a key part of any mouse extermination or control program, keeping areas where food particles and/or cooking liquids build up sanitized and free of any food sources mice can utilize, keep all food stored in ceiled containers inside ceiled cabinets and/or pantries, all pet food ceiled and out of reach of mice, pet feeding areas sanitized and any water sources mice can take advantage of eliminated. A. Yes, the House Mouse has the potential to transmit several types of food-borne illnesses in the form of bacteria to humans. To name a couple of the most common bacteria transmitted by the house mouse include the likes of campylobacter and salmonella bacteria causing campylobacteriosis and salmonellosis, furthermore both of which can result in food poisoning. In more serious infections, these bacterial diseases can develop into long-term, incapacitating infections and/or loss of life when compiled with other complications caused by these bacterial infections. House Mice also carry a protein that is responsible for causing allergic and asthma rhinitis in some people who are susceptible, this protein is found in their urine.

DESCRIPTION:

The House Mouse’s body is small coming in 2 ½ inches to 4 ½ inches in length and grey in colour with their tails ranging from 2 to 5 inches in length with a pointy face, big ears and small eyes. Mouse droppings resemble a small piece of black rice ranging from 1/16 to ¼ of an inch in length.

BIOLOGY

Reaching maturity in roughly 30 to 40 days the female house mouse will average 7 to 9 litters per year with each litter averaging 4 to 6 mice. Considering the shot period in which female house mice reach sexual maturity and can begin breeding at around 6 weeks of age populations can explode quickly with spring being their most productive breeding time depending on environmental conditions. House mice generally live about 1 year.
